“Ikat” Hanging Lamp
Ikat is a dyeing technique used to make patterns on textiles. The tradition has many variations found all over Asia, including in the Philippines. The pattern is particularly prestigious because it involves an overlapping pattern and much skill and precision to execute. The “Ikat” Hanging Lamp draws inspiration from this tradition and is a testament to skill, patience, and craftsmanship.

Material experiments with bagacay
It was discovered that the original pattern could not fit in the given dimensions. I modified the pattern while trying to keep the spirit of the original design. A swatch of modified pattern to verify my calculations.
To get a more accurate sense of scale, a full-scale model was made. This ended up being a guide for construction.
After finding the swatch satisfactory, A scale model was made to verify my calculations for the construction of the lamp.
